Three Eagles FLYING

“Three Eagles Flying is the product of the last ten years of my life that presents an evolutionary journey of mind and spirt leading to the cultural identity that today I call, Me. In the struggle to gain self-knowledge and acceptance, the often-oppressive judgements of others have had a significant influence on my developing identity. How we judge one another, by skin color, language, intelligence, or success, has a profound effect on the identity that we choose to express. The cycle of discovery, acceptance, and frustration that I’ve experienced have stemmed from constantly reassessing who I am based on judgements, valid or not, that others have made about me. Learning to take risks has made the difference in overcoming the judgements of others.

 The flag piece, Three Eagles Flying, arose out of the feelings of frustration which derive from my sense of being culturally illegitimate. It represents being tied between two cultures and not being accepted by either. There is a conscious struggle between the two cultures which often forces a person to deny one in favor of the other.
